UPDATE: Check Health Insurance Off Your List by December 17

Update: Healthcare.gov has announced an extension until 11:59 p.m. Pacific time on Thursday, December 17 (2:59 a.m. Friday Eastern time) to purchase or make changes to coverage beginning on January 1, 2016. If your state has its own marketplace, visit its website for information on state extensions.

With the holidays in full swing, it’s important to keep checking off your shopping list, including getting your health insurance and avoiding a 2016 tax penalty! There is still one week left to enroll or change your current plan if you want your health insurance coverage to start on January 1, 2016.  The Marketplace is open for business and affordable options are available. More than four out of five people who signed up last year received premium tax credits to lower the cost of their insurance!

Don’t know where to start? Not to worry! Get Covered America is joining TurboTax to help you understand your health insurance enrollment options and how the Affordable Care Act impacts your taxes with a #TaxHealth Twitter Chat this Wednesday, December 9th at 10:00 am PT. Have questions about how your health insurance could affect your taxes? Follow @TurboTax and @GetCoveredUS and Tweet us your question using #TaxHealth on Wednesday to get immediate answers.

In the meantime, check out our health insurance guide for information and tools to make the best decisions for you and your family. There is also Get Covered America’s Connector to help you find local help with your health insurance application.

Make sure to enroll by December 15 so that you can get covered and check 2016 health insurance off your list!
