Congratulations on finishing your taxes!

We know how important your tax refund is to you. Good news, the IRS started processing tax returns on January 30th.   Returns will be processed in the order they were submitted and as soon as your tax return is accepted, we will notify you by email.   This notification could take up to 48 hours.

The IRS estimates that you should receive your tax refund within 21 days of your return being accepted.  The IRS issued more than 9 out of 10 refunds in less than 21 days last year and expects the same results this year.

Once your tax return has been accepted by the IRS, you can track the status of your refund by logging into your MyTurboTax account or checking the IRS Where’s My Refund Tool.

IRS Update:  The IRS announced today that they are experiencing high traffic on their Where’s My Refund Tool.  As a result, there may be limited availability during busier periods. The IRS has asked the entire tax industry to remind customers to only check Where’s My Refund once a day. IRS systems are only updated once a day, usually overnight.

  1. I just filed my 2017 tax return on the 13th of March 2019 and as of today it is still saying processing and I really need to understand why its like this

    • Hi Ellen,

Prior year tax returns have a longer processing time. Per the IRS; “It takes approximately 6 weeks to process past due tax returns.”

The IRS issues all tax refunds. TurboTax does not issue the actual refund.

Once the return is processed, You may check the status of the tax refund via IRS:
      “Where’s My Refund?” tool, https://www.irs.gov/refunds.

Please note you will need the following information when checking on your refund status:
      Social security number or ITIN
      Your filing status
      Your exact refund amount

      Thank you

      • I’m still not able to see when I’m getting my 2017 refund, its been about 10weeks now. you guys said past due refunds takes up to about 6 weeks and I am still waiting on mines. It is past the 15th of April and that is the last day for taxes to be filed, I’m also assuming received as well.

  2. Refund? How quaint. For the last 30 years I’ve had to pay the feds a small amount ($200 or so) because I wanted my money all year long and had better sense than to let them hold it interest free. If you’re still using tax season as some sort of foolish, no interest, savings plan you deserve your delayed and smaller refunds.

  3. I have done my taxes April 8 2017 but I have to send them off in the mail April 10 2017 and now it saying processing I been waiting a month all ready.

    • You should receive it within 48 hours after the processing period is over. However it may take a few more days, depending on the Bank its being routed to. Assuming you e-filed it.

  4. I filed my taxes in Feb 2015 and I got a message on Where’s my refund saying that its being revised, now its June and I checked it today and its saying its been processed. What does this mean anyone ? By the way I sent in all the information that was asked of me .

  5. Hi there friends, how is all, and what you desire to say concerning this paragraph,
in my view its truly remarkable in support of me.

  6. I filed my taxes with TT on February 6th. I have already received my state of Maine refund but the status on my federal has been “processing will give a date for refund” for well over a week. I have been reading through the posts and am wondering if it is still the education credits that is holding up my return? I have been filing with education credits for a few years and they’ve never held anything up. Is it different this year and if so why?

  7. My partner and I stumbled over here from a different website and thought I might check things out.
