  1. I purchase my 2018 Turbo Tax premier account in 2017. Now they are offering a free one for 2018. Will they be giving anything back to those who already bought a copy?

  2. Turbotax absolute ZERO
Just finished and wanted to leave a quick msg for those filing $ 0/0/0

Take your time because there are prompts that offer additional charges to your refund if you select them. IE Benefits plus.! On the bottom of each offer. You can click “No Thanks” and move through the 1040EZ without any TurboTax additional charges. I do remember one screen that didn’t have a “No Thanks” button. I had to cursor and click on the top menu to get pass this “benefits” offer.
So, again. Take your time. (If you do make a mistake..I remember a menu option to “clear all” data and start again.

I think Turbotax did the right thing and offer people a E-file FREE this year. This is really a good incentive for people to learn doing their own taxes and save money. The 1040ez form is really easy using turbotax

    .

  3. Well mine wasn’t free got charged .. and lost money with turbotax think ill go back to HandR block at least they tell you it cost and I won’t recomend this.

  4. I was charged to file my NJ return electronically. $21 . You said to Canita.that it started on January 9 and I filed on January 28. no absolute 0 for me

And thanks gor all of your help I bet you guys are praying for tomorrow!!! 😉

    • Hi Kristen,
We do not charge for earned income tax credit and for ACA forms. It sounds like based on your info your federal taxes may be free. You will have to pay to file your state taxes which will be 29.99.
You don’t pay until you are ready to file.
      Thank you,
      Lisa Greene-Lewis

  6. All I did was get to the print part and now i cant go back and make any changes. I am not ready to “file”. Why wont it let me make changes?

  7. Hi,
Can you please direct me on how to get a refund, other then through care? I was holding for 26 min and the rep who answered then said he had to transfer me where i then held for another 32 min and then gave up. I filled under my account I have used for YRS now and everything said free till I entered my card to pay for my state, and after it said it charged it the status top left auto changed to deluxe.. Status filling is single with 24,428.00, no dependents claimed and no other sections filled out. I have filled, and never had this happen. It didn’t even send my state taxes or federal, just charged me 94.98 (One separate fee of 54.99 – Deluxe and another 39.99 for state.) I DID NOT select “yes, ok, accept, upgrade” on any of your continuous pop ups.

    • Hi NeedOfAnswers –
I apologize for the inconvenience you’ve experienced. I’ve reached out to you via email to request additional information. (Please don’t post any personal information in the blog comments as anyone can read the blog.)
      Thank you,

  8. Well, surprise, surprise! Got to the end of my FREE FILING FEDERAL TURBO TAX RETURN and guess what? NOT FREE AT ALL!! Called customer service and was told that because I had income reported on a 1099-R that it now had to be upgraded to Deluxe and the final cost for federal and state was approx $72. Such trickery! Would not have used Turbo Tax as I had an easy/peasy return this year had I know of the cost. At no time during my tax return did it say I was being upgraded until you’re confronted with the fee at the end. So sorry to see an outstanding company having to revert to such a scam.

  9. hello turbotax.
I put the wrong bank account number and irs already acccepted my request for refund.
I tried to amend but my refund went to zero.

  10. This is my first year to do my taxes using Turbotax. I took advantage of the free offer of federal and state. I don’t understand all the fuss from some commentators. It was very easy. Just follow the directions and if you are prompted for an offer for extra services, you can decline. It was a great experience. I already got my fed refund and my state has been approved.

  11. What is the number to call to get a refund fm Intuit for charging me for filing thru them but I did the 1040EZ forms. This is my THIRD request for help in getting my money back. Very disappointed with their customer service

  12. Im still waiting for an answer I asked last week as to why Intuit charged me $77.00 when they realized the 1040 EZ form was best for me, which should have been free. Your site seems to be a rip off as I’ve heard from others with similar stories. PLEASE Do The Right thing and return my money to my account.

  13. I would like to no why i see a advertisement for 0 money on fed and state, i did my taxes on jan29 2015 and paid 36 or so a pc. i would like to no is there a deadline and or why i didnt no about this prior. thanks

  14. I purchased the “Absolute zero” version of turbotax with the understanding that I would be able to file my federal and state returns for $0. So please explain to me why I had to pay $39.99 per state and then another $19.99 to file my state. Last time I checked paying an additional $60 wasn’t free. I would really like an explanation as to why I was charged when it is advertised to be free. I am going to try to get the money back that I was charged, if I am unable to I will not be using turbotax again.

    • Hi Cory,
If you were able to file a 1040EZ or 1040A you are eligible for the offer so if your income was under $100,000 and you didn’t itemize then you should have been free. There may be something in your return that doesn’t allow you to file a 1040EZ or 1040A or you may have requested some of our additional offers. We have many customers that are not paying anything. If you think there is a mistake you can talk to our customer care at 1-800-4=intuit.
      Thank you,
      Lisa Greene-Lewis

      • I am filing 1040A but have a schedule C – is this why my state is NOT Free? Really aggravating. My software was also less at Staples than via turbo tax online – it was on sale but why don’t you match? Just using yours online is convenient but stables will ship in a day.

      • Hi Jeannie,
Yes, if you have a schedule C you have to use TurboTax Home and Business. When you use TurboTax Home and Business Online there are features you can use that are not available in the CD version like TurboTax ExplainWhy which gives you personalized explanations of the “why” behind your deductions and credits, TurboTax My Analysis and Advice that lets you look at your tax history and gives you personalized tips on how to maximize your tax refund next year, and the ability to move across devices so you can start on your phone or tablet and finish on your computer. You can read more about online features here

  15. let me start off by saying,I opted to have DD. unfortunately I didn’t know the acct. was closed..so now after several hours on phone to IRS and Intuit…I have to wait for a paper check…even tho I ran down to bank and opened a new acct. no one can change my acct.number, not IRS,not Intuit..so what started off as I would get my DD on the 30th of Jan.now is March 5,or if I’m lucky…before..not holding my hand on my _ _ _ for that one…and now when I could have e file for free…I have to wait til after my paper check arrives, then Intuit will send my bill for 29.99..how nice..can say one thing for sure,I have used Intuit since 2009,guess what won’t be using it again..mind you IRS told me..gov.sends funds to intuit, and they take the fees out…intuit says no that’s not how it’s done..then how do the fees come out of refund then..I guess the fee fairy uses her wand and the fees come out..I really don’t understand, why? intuit can’t simply change the acct. number for me,and everything would be good to go….

    • Hi Susan,
Sorry about your account, but we are not authorized to go in and change something you input on your tax return. In addition, that information is already transmitted to the IRS. That is for your own safety and protection. If you did refund transfer that is a fee charged as a service to you to help you pay to get your taxes done. The IRS sends your money to the bank that does the refund processing and takes out the refund transfer amount and not to Intuit.
      Thank you,
      Lisa Greene-Lewis

      • then in other words, you’re the middle man who basically does nothing yet gets paid…what a rack it…hmmm kick back from bank who charges fee,and then the customer fee…and please don’t patronize me..you’re not sorry…and this is a lesson well learned..I don’t get my refund til 5 weeks later than it was supposed to be..and intuit gets to laugh all the way to the bank…and I pay for the pleasure of filling out my own forms….trust me on this..all my family and friends will know about this…and I won’t make them pay for the knowledge….

    • You are upset that you goofed up your direct deposit section and are blaming turbotax for not wanting to tamper with personal information? *Facepalm* I hear there’s these places called tax preparation services that do all the work for you for 400 dollars a return. Sounds right up your alley.

      • YES…!!! I understand about not messing with someone’s info..But if they are offering $0 to e-file..and I paid for the privilege of DD sooner than the old way..it’s not going DD..after 2 1/2 hours on the phone to both them and IRS..I get it…I have to suck it up not being able to change personal info..Yet I have to wait 5 weeks for paper check, then they will send me a bill for waiting the extra time and no DD..I’m happy for you…you don’t have these issues…unfortunately I have to count every penny..and it’s a bit of a bitter pill to swallow when it means decisions such as food or utilities..But you have a great day and I hope you never have to make the choices I do…

    • Susan how can you blame someone else for using a DD number on your own closed account? Better yet, how could you not know your own account was closed? It may be time to own some responsibility here. And for the record…… I doubt your family and friends are thinking turbo tax is the idiot here. …….Just saying. It may be time to be quiet, and spend the next 6 weeks doing some self reflecting.

  16. I’m married I’m on disability I don’t work an she don’t work , my question is I won the lottery a few times for example I won $5767.00 an they held over $1400 for federal . What forms do I need to file if I’m only trying to get back what they held from my lottery winning?

  17. I filed on January 20 and it says it was accepted but at the end it says that to print and mail but I chose to have direct deposit so im confused.
    please help.

  18. With this turbotax absolutely 0 within the federal health insurance part it doesn’t give me the option to put in my 2014 Policy issuer name, policy start date or the termination date is that okay? I completed everything and it said everything is correct with no problem so the only thing i need to do is to sign it. I just wanna make sure i done everything right because this is my first time filing my taxes myself

    • Hi Dale,
It is free, but you may have requested to add on TurboTax Plus, which includes organizing and saving your taxes in our vault, expert tax advice, and or refund bonus program, or refund transfer or audit defense. You are given the option to select these offers. If you do not your federal, state, and e-file is free. If you didn’t select these options contact customer service.
      Thank you,
      Lisa Greene-Lewis

  19. I read a statement on the TTA0 description that said something like…”free, if you’re a first time filer, student, or don’t have kids” …..What does that mean?? If I’m married, filing jointly, and have children, will I be charged a fee in the process?? Please clarify, and thanks!
