Read the Article

E-file is officially open and many taxpayers who have already filed are now awaiting their much-anticipated tax refunds. For some filers, tax refunds are their biggest paychecks of the year, so it’s no surprise that “When will my tax refund arrive?” has become a hot topic on the TurboTax AnswerXchange, our online tax question and answer community.

If you’re one of these recent filers, read on to find out when you can expect your tax refund. Haven’t filed your taxes yet? No problem! You can get started with TurboTax today.

Q: When will I get my IRS tax refund?

A: Before you find out when you’ll receive your tax refund, you should make sure that your federal tax return has been received. You can begin checking status of your e-filed tax return 24 to 48 hours after e-file. The IRS asks you wait 4 weeks before checking your refund status using Where’s My Refund? if you filed through the mail. The IRS Where’s My Refund tool will show “Return Received” status once they begin processing your tax return. You will receive a personalized refund date once your tax return is processed and your tax refund is approved.

Last year, 9 out of 10 e-filers received their IRS tax refund in less than 21 days, and we expect the same this year. For paper-filers, the process does take more time.

I filed my taxes in January, I had to do an identity check, it’s April now and I have not received my refund. I am calling the IRS numbers and it’s impossible to reach a human being. What should I do? I am changing my address these two weeks. I need to talk to someone. How can I reach a human being from IRS? Is it normal to wait for so long? it’s been more than 6 weeks since I verified my identity.

  11. Long time user of Turbo Tax, 2002 to present. This year is by far the worst and will likely be the end of using Turbo Tax. Completed my taxes on 22 February and efiled, state refund showed up around a week later. Federal is still not back. I looked on the IRS website and it stated that my refund contained calculation errors and was under review! The errors were fixed and it was reported by the IRS that it was sent out DD on March 30th. I paid for the tax prep through the Turbo Tax affiliated bank (first time ever) but I still do not have my refund. Is this normal???

I’m a single mother with no bills, no school, no nothing, doing my taxes every year this same…there is no excuse for them to hold it…

      • It’s not just Turbo Tax. I use TaxSlayer and I’m going through the same as yall. I e-filed on Jan. 27th. Verified my ID in mid march and as of April 7th, still haven’t received my refund.

Called after the 8 weeks was up another lady told me that it may take up to another 4 weeks to hear something. This is ridiculous if a person OWE the IRS they wIll take the money no ifs ands or buts, but will take their time refunding yours.
