IRS Announces E-File Open Day! Be the First In Line for Your Tax Refund

Read the Article

Today the IRS announced Monday, January 29, 2024 as the beginning of the nation’s 2023 tax season when the agency will begin accepting and processing 2023 tax year returns. Don’t wait to file. File today with TurboTax, and be first in line for your tax refund! Although the IRS has not yet begun accepting e-filed tax returns, TurboTax securely holds your completed taxes, transmits them to the IRS, and state when they open for e-file.

Whether you want to do your taxes yourself, get help along the way, or just fully hand over your taxes to a tax expert, TurboTax is ready to help you get your biggest refund.

Last year, the average tax refund was more than $3,000. We know that your tax refund can make a big difference in your financial life, whether you need to pay down debt or save for something special.

Combined with e-file, direct deposit is the fastest way to get your tax refund. Overall, the IRS anticipates nine out of 10 taxpayers will receive their refund within 21 days or less when they file electronically with direct deposit if there are no issues with their tax return.

The IRS encourages all taxpayers to file as soon as possible and reminds you to keep copies of your prior-year tax returns for at least three years. The filing deadline to submit 2023 tax returns is April 15, 2024. Individuals who live in Maine and Massachusetts have until April 17, 2024, because April 15 is Patriots Day and April 16 is emancipation day. C-Corps filing deadline is April 15, 2024 and partnerships and S-Corps filing deadlines are March 15, 2024.

  1. Hello,
I tried to file my fed form 1120S and my WI 5S and I got a pop up message in TT that the Intuit Elec Filing Center is not open for the season yet. Why is that happening? I tried to call into TT support but couldn’t get through the frustrating system of prompts and redirects. Very frustrated!
    thanks,

    • Hi,
The IRS expects to start releasing tax refunds to taxpayers who claimed the EITC and the additional Child Tax Credit on 2/15.The IRS expects the earliest EITC/ACTC related tax refunds to be available in bank accounts or on debit cards beginning on February 27, 2019 assuming you chose direct deposit and there are no other issues.

  4. We just filed our 2013 early February. Tried to file 2014 yesterday and was rejected because they cannot find our agi. We tried the pin number and even put the 0 like it said. Still was rejected. Is this because 2013 has not yet been processed? How then can we e file 2014 now? Both will get refunds. Need this info in the system asap due to college financial aid. Is there another way?

    • Hi Peggy,
Yes, your 2013 would need to be processed and in the IRS system. You also would not see your 2014 tax refunds until the IRS processes your 2013 taxes. You can file your 2014 as soon as possible and mail it in.
      Thank you,
      Lisa Greene-Lewis
