IRS Update:  On October 22 the IRS announced a possible delay of approximately one to two weeks to the start of the 2014 filing season following the government shutdown.  The IRS has not determined the exact start date, but they are exploring options to shorten the delay.  As always, we want you to have the most accurate, up to date information and will post the start to the 2014 filing season as soon as we receive guidance on the specific opening date from the IRS.

As you know Congress came to an agreement to end the government shutdown and IRS employees are back at work.

Here is a breakdown of what it means to your taxes:

What does this mean for me if I filed my 2012 taxes during the government shutdown?

  •  The IRS began processing tax returns received since October 1 and related refunds.
  • The IRS has also begun to respond to paper correspondence, transcript requests and authorization forms received from third parties.

Are there any delays in processing my tax return filed during this time?

Per the IRS you may experience longer wait times or limited service as the IRS resumes operations and gets the back log of returns.

High telephone demand is expected so they encourage you to wait to call if your matter is not urgent.
