TurboTax Does Not Advertise on Rush Limbaugh

UPDATE 3/7/12 1pm PT: We are aware a few TurboTax ads have accidentally been aired in conjunction with Rush Limbaugh shows. Per our statement, these ads never should have run. We are looking into the situation in order to prevent any future accidental airings on this show. These ads aired in direct conflict with our media buying guidelines.

We’ve heard from many of you about concerns about TurboTax advertising. We have investigated multiple reports that TurboTax ads recently ran on the Rush Limbaugh show. We have confirmed that TurboTax ads did not air on the Rush Limbaugh show on Friday, Mar. 2 and Mon. Mar. 5, in accordance with our media buying guidelines.

We believe that TurboTax has been erroneously included in a list of advertisers because we do advertise on other Clear Channel Network programs. We take every possible step to ensure our media buying guidelines are fully enforced.

What is your area of expertise and how long have you been an expert in that area?

“I am a tax professional with over 30 years experience in tax and accounting. I received my Bachelors in Accounting from the University of Illinois and passed the CPA exam in 1980. I worked in public accounting at Coopers and Lybrand for 12 years (10 years in tax) specializing in high net worth individuals, banking, and consolidated tax filings.”

“I have been at intuit for over 18 years, where I have done tax technical training, worked as a Tax Analyst Programmer, Tax Development Manager for Small Business products, Federal Individual and State Individual products, and Electronic Filing Import. I presently work as a Tax and Customer Experience leader for the Tax Review Board.”

What do you like about being a Tax Expert for TurboTax?

“I love being a tax expert for TurboTax, because we get to help 20 million taxpayers get their taxes done. We also are able to stay abreast of tax laws and hear about tax changes before many tax preparers in the industry. I also love being able to contribute to making the tax law changes easier for the general public to understand.”

What do you like to do in your spare time?

“I like running, aerobics, dancing, reading good mysteries, Sudoku, puzzles, and spending time with my husband and 3 children.”

What is the top tax question that you hear and what is your answer?

“The most common question I get asked is how to save money so you don’t have to pay as much in taxes. My answer is to contribute to your retirement funds, either 401K or IRAs, take advantage of all your eligible tax credits like education, child care, and earned income credit.”

The TurboTax All Star Celebrity Treasure Hunt on NBC

If you’ve watched any TV lately, chances are you’ve seen an ad or two for TurboTax. You may have even caught some of the ads that feature talent from the NBC Universal shows in customized ads. This week, TurboTax will be sponsoring a first ever “primetime “ sponsorship takeover by an advertiser, with a “show within a show” event. Tune in on Sunday 1/30 to watch the NBC airing of “National Treasure” (8 to 11 p.m. ET/PT) …and be sure to watch the commercials!

The ‘All Star Celebrity Treasure Hunt’ hosted by Brooke Burns, takes place during the commercial breaks, and will pit three teams against each other in a challenging competition for the chance to win $50,000 for their designated charity. The teams include award-winning recording artist and actress Brandy Norwood, actress Lisa Rinna (“Dancing with the Stars”), and Jeremy Roenick, a former National Hockey League player and NBC analyst.

Just watching TV could earn you some cool prizes. Viewers can play along throughout the night at http://www.NBC.com/TurboTax for their own chance to win $25,000 and other unique prizes. There are also multiple opportunities to win cool prizes online through April 18.
