Using TurboTax for iPad, you can snap a photo of your W-2 (iPad mini and iPad with Retina display only). From there, you’ll get step-by-step guidance and free one-on-one tax advice from tax experts as you prepare your return. When you’re done, you can securely e-file—all from your iPad!

TaxCaster - A free, easy way to get a quick estimate of your tax refund. Once you enter some basic information, TaxCaster estimates your tax refund amount using the TurboTax tax calculator. TaxCaster is available for iPhone and iPad as well as Android devices.

MyTaxRefund - A free app available for iPhone and iPads and Android devices. After e-filing, you can use MyTaxRefund to easily track the status of federal and state tax returns. MyTaxRefund tells you when to expect your federal refund payment based on IRS projections.

IRS Free File Program Offers Free Tax Preparation and E-filing

IRS Free File, available at http://www.irs.gov, makes online tax preparation and e-filing available at no cost to low and middle-income taxpayers.

The program is a public-private partnership between the federal government and private tax preparation companies, including TurboTax maker Intuit. Companies that participate must adhere to strict privacy and security guidelines.

People with an adjusted gross income (AGI) of $57,000 or less can select from more than a dozen online tax preparation services. That means about 70 percent of all taxpayers, or 95 million people, are eligible to use these free services.

Additionally, anyone, regardless of their income, can use the Free File Fillable Forms at irs.gov. It’s a free, simple forms utility that’s basically the electronic equivalent of a paper 1040 along with associated schedules and forms. You just type in the numbers and it does the math for you.

Intuit has supported this program for more than a decade. Since the start of the Free File program in 2002, we’ve donated more than 22 million federal and state tax returns through Intuit TurboTax to low and middle-income taxpayers.

For tax year 2012, anyone who has an AGI of $31,000 or less, or is active duty military with an AGI of $57,000 or less, or who qualifies for EITC can use TurboTax Freedom Edition. Please note, Turbotax Online Freedom Edition is not to be confused with our Federal Free file available on TurboTax.com if you don’t meet these qualifications.

TurboTax Tax Freedom Edition also includes free tax advice from CPAs, IRS Enrolled Agents and tax attorneys via chat.

Additionally, through the IRS web site, TurboTax offers free state tax preparation to qualified taxpayers who file returns in 22 states and the District of Columbia that sponsor their own Free File: Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont, Virginia, and West Virginia.

TurboTax and Operation Homefront Announce Mission2Match to Support U.S. Troops

Marine Sgt. Carlos Cruz has spent a combined 23 months in Iraq over three tours. During each tour, the infantry Marine suffered traumatic brain injury after IED blasts knocked him aside and left him unconscious. Three deployments. Three blasts. Three bruises on his brain.

Carlos was moved to the wounded warrior battalion where he worried every day about how he would support his family once he was medically retired. His wife, Patricia, was laid off soon after. Not only had Carlos fought for his country, he now faced a real financial battle at home.

Carlos isn’t alone. There are tens of thousands of U.S. service men and women just like him who need help to get back on track.

That is why TurboTax and Operation Homefront have launched Mission2Match, a cooperative fundraising effort to support troops and their families facing money emergencies. Operation Homefront is a charitable organization that provides emergency financial support and assistance to America’s service men and women.

In fact, Carlos and his family turned to Operation Homefront when they had nowhere else to go. The Olympic trials are over and the 2012 London Olympics are just days away. We will all be glued to our TVs(or computers) as we get to see some of our favorite athletes march into the Olympic Stadium during opening ceremonies on July 27th. This has always been a time of great pride for Olympians as they represent their countries as the world’s elite, but American’s who race for the gold in London will also receive a nice bonus for their winnings. Our infographic shows how the race for the gold will pay off and has paid off for athletes in the past. Not surprising, 24 of Forbes’ highest paid athletes are Olympians.

Independence day is here! The day we remember those who fought for our independence in the past and honor our heroic military troops of the present. It’s also a day we celebrate with our families and friends by doing everything from firing up the grill to attending explosive firework shows. No matter what we chose to do, Fourth of July celebrations are on the rise. With more than 67.6 percent of Americans planning to join in the festivities this holiday and with the Fourth of July falling in the middle of the week, many Americans plan to start their spending and celebrations earlier than usual. Our infographic shows you everything from how much Americans spend on Independence Day to how many millions of dollars in damage their personal firework celebrations are causing.

It’s National Donut Day! Glad We Don’t Have Denmark’s Fat Tax

Taxes on items like cigarettes, soda, alcohol, and even marijuana called “sin taxes” have been imposed in the United States, but what about a “Fat Tax” on items containing certain levels of saturated fat? Could this happen in the United States? In the spirit of National Donut Day we wanted to share our infographic about Denmark and its “Fat Tax”. So before you chow down on a dozen donuts today, think about how much you would pay in taxes to enjoy those deep fried sugar confections if the United States approves such a tax.
