You Can File with TurboTax Today Despite IRS Processing Delays

Important Update as of 2/10/2012 : This blog is related to your 2010 tax return.  There were no delays related to late legislation and itemized deductions for TY 2011.  You can file your taxes.  There is however an IRS delay in issuing refunds.  Please see our update for today:

Some taxpayers who filed electronically and received an acknowledgement from the IRS are concerned when they visit “Where’s My Refund” and are told that IRS has no information regarding their tax return. The IRS informed us on February 10 that this is a temporary situation and should be resolved in several days.  At that time, you will be able to get an expected refund date when you visit “Where’s My Refund.”

This is an IRS issue and impacts returns regardless of who sends them in
to the IRS. This is not a TurboTax issue.

If you have received an acknowledgement of your tax return from the IRS, then the IRS assures us they have received your return and are processing it.

Information on the status of your refund will be updated in “Where’s My
Refund” once your return processes. This is a temporary situation, and we expect to resolve the matter in a few days.

IRS expects the vast majority of tax refunds to continue to be issued
within the historical range of 10 to 21 days.

The IRS has updated it’s Where’s My Refund site with additional FAQs: http://www.irs.gov/newsroom/article/0,,id=254102,00.html

Update: IRS announced they will begin accepting delayed returns Feb. 14

Ready to file your taxes already?  You can electronically file your 2010 tax return with TurboTax today, even if you are affected by the recently announced IRS processing delays.  If you prepare and e-file your return with TurboTax we will automatically e-file your federal tax return when the IRS begins accepting them in February, you can receive your state refund as soon as possible and be done with your taxes!

“There’s no need to wait to file your taxes this year,” said Bob Meighan, CPA and vice president of TurboTax. “By e-filing now with TurboTax, your return is in the queue when the IRS starts processing refunds. TurboTax will notify you the moment your return has been e-filed with the IRS and we’ll let you know when to expect your federal refund. In addition, we’re working with states to help our customers get their state tax refunds without delay. There’s no reason to wait or worry with TurboTax.”

Wondering if you your tax return will be affected by IRS delays?  Taxpayers who itemize tax deductions and those claiming the Higher Education Tuition and Fees deduction or the Educator Expense Deduction will be impacted by the delays, which affect all tax preparation methods and include both e-filed and paper tax returns.  You can also check out this post to find out if your state is anticipating any delays of state tax returns.

A quick tip: the IRS is urging all taxpayers to electronically file their 2010 taxes to ensure accurate returns and faster refunds. Once the IRS begins processing tax returns affected by the delays, if you e-file and choose direct deposit you can expect your tax refund in as little as eight days.

If you still have questions about the IRS delays or any other tax question you can take advantage of a free answer from a TurboTax tax expert through Jan. 31 at http://www.freetaxquestion.com.

  2. I electronically filed on Feb 2. The first time it was rejected because my social security number did not match my last name. I got married last year and forgot to update my social security card. I changed it and resubmitted, it was accepted. TurboTax says submitted successfully but no date as to when I should receive my refund. Where’s my refund says it does not have any information. I called the irs and the rep said they only show the rejected return. The rep also stated that the system was acting funny and not to worry. I still have no information. I do not know if I should refile or wait. I just want to know if they have my return, that’s all! I can wait for the money even though it would be nice to have it.

  6. I itemized my deductions and my return was accepted on Jan. 25th. WMR is saying I will get my deposit by Feb. 14th. So is that wrong? This article is saying they won’t even start processing until Feb. 14th.

    • Hi Emily,
That blog post was for TY 2010 due to late legislation. You are fine for TY 2011. The IRS started processing tax returns on 1/17/11. Please keep in mind that their tax refund processing dates are estimates based on normal processing and they are experiencing some delays.
      Thank you,

  11. The government is just broke and wants to hold onto our money longer. That’s all it comes down to, plain and simple. The expect everyone to pay them on time, but when it comes to them paying us they take their sweet time.

  12. My turbo tax card is late is there a chance that it will came and the money comes on the card at the same time

    • Hi Ray,

Please allow 7-10 days for your card to arrive after applying for the card. If you do not receive the card after 10 days, please contact Customer Service at 1-866-963-1620 and select the option to report a card lost, stolen or never received. Please have your Social Security Number and confirmation number (from the confirmation email you received right after you ordered the card) available.

When you complete your federal tax return, TurboTax gives you an estimated date that you will receive your refund based on the IRS’s Refund Cycle Chart. If you e-filed, your federal refund will typically be deposited directly on your card within 8-15 days from day your return is accepted by the IRS (6-8 weeks if you mailed your return). Once your refund is loaded on to your TurboTax Refund Card, you will be notified by email or SMS text message (if you requested to be contacted when you signed up for the card) that the funds are available.

If you would like to check the status of your refund, please visit the IRS web site at http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=96596,00.html

The processing times for state refunds vary from state to state. As a general rule, you can expect your state tax refund within 30 days from the day your return is successfully transmitted.

      I hope this helps you!

      Best regards,

      Lisa Lewis

  13. Hi, I recieved an email on 2/17 saying that my taxes were accepted and being processed. On the IRS website, it states that if it was processed by 11am on 2/17, the return will be deposited on 2/25. My question is, how can I find out if my taxes were accepted by 11am on 2/17?

  14. I efiled on Jan. 30, 2011 and my taxes got delayed until Feb. 14. and were accepted on the 16th. When I put in my w2 information I got an amount and then when I put in my school information, 1098t form, the amount did not change. I also put tuition information and nothing changed. Why did I have to wait? Will my refund amount go up?

  15. hi i e filed my federal taxes and was told i would be getting a refund and yet it has been 1 week like i was told and still nothing then today i get a 2nd turbotax card in the mail so i was wondering why the delay and why the second card and when can i expect my refund

  16. Hi Sean,

We submitted all “held” returns to the IRS by Wednesday evening at 7PM. If you haven’t already, you should receive an acceptance e-mail within 24-72 hours of your return being submitted.

    Ashley

  17. Hi Edward,

If you have the wrong PIN, the IRS will reject your return. Once that happens TurboTax will send you an e-mail notifying you that your return has been rejected. In the e-mail will be a link to click on to fix your PIN and re-file your return.

    Ashley

  18. Hi gina,

Accepted (not acknowledged) means the IRS has received your return, but they have not processed and accepted it. It can take 24-72 hours for them to process and “acknowledge” your return.

    Ashley

  19. My e-file status under tt shows federal return accepted – expected date of refund 3-4-11. When I visted the IRS website, there is no status. Please explain.

  20. WASTED ENOUGH OF MY TIME…. I’m going to mail

forms in today…No Help No Support,Poor service

Will not be A TurboTax customer next year

  21. Of course, we were penalized by dong exactly what Turbo Tax asked us to do.

From a Turbo Tax rep on your own Live Community:

“We apologize for the confusion with how the returns are processed this year.

If the return was filed prior to Feb 14th it will be processed in the backlog, we expect to have the backlog completed by the 18th.

If the return was filed after Feb 14th it will be processed immediately, meaning it will not go through the backlog.”

I think it’s time for Turbo Tax to start refunding some money. It is asinine that people who already paid for your service are getting processed behind people who are filing this week. An explanation would be great. Something other than “We are doing the best we can” or “We are sending them as fast as the IRS will let us.”

  22. This is really ridiculous. You sent a email saying that you would start processing returns on the 14th and now it is on a first come first serve basis. This is crazy. I filed my taxes on 2/7 and I know people who filed there return on the 2/14 with tt and have already had there return accepted with the IRS and I am still waiting for a response. I need my return to be sent to the IRS ASAP. You are deliberately misleading your customers and not being truthful. What is taking so long. Get my return to the IRS. I will definately not be using TT in the future.

  23. Having same issue as last post TurboTax will not accept my efile states no internet connection.

updates and charging for efile works fine.

How is this the fault of the IRS?

  24. For those waiting to have their returns submitted to the Fed, here’s my update: I submitted my return to TurboTax on 2/2/11 and it was finally transmitted to the Fed this afternoon. The TT status update shows the return as “accepted, but not acknowledged” by the Fed, which seems backwards. However, at least TT finally sent it, now we’ll see how long it takes to get the refund through this fiasco.

  25. I just used TT Deluxe and hit the green “transmit” option/button and it didn’t do anything to tell me it was actually sent but then that option disappeared. How can I tell it was even sent? It just leaves me on a page that says “We Need To Make One More Check” which I’ve already checked and done 3x. There is no confirmation that I’ve sent anything! AH, okay after 4 checks, I see there are letters that are maybe trying to look red, but more brick red and look like black letters…..got it done.

As for those all upset about where their money is, come on people, it’s a big job and everyone has to understand INFLUX of forms, people, products whatever, if you work outside the home. If you want your money then don’t give the government so much extra next year.

  26. My e-file will not go through because a message says that my internet may not be connected at time of transmissio. I can go to several websites, though. What may be the problem, because the internet is certainly connected?

  27. I was informed that a buddy of mine taxes have been accepted by the IRS and are being processed now. Funny thing and he itemized, is that he figured his taxes after I had already figured mine and filed mine.. Whats the deal? I filed mine January 24,2011 and still have heard not a thing!

Why did turbo tax not inform their customers prior to them filing their taxes with them? Why did turbo tax wait until after us as customers paid for the service, then informed us of the delays????

I want to know what the hell is going on and I want my money. Damn government drawing interest on my money when I could be! They wont get me next year..

Problem is the country is so damn broke, they don’t have the money to refund back to the people of the United States.

  28. This is ridiculous. I would have not used Turbo Tax had I known that this is the way that my efile would have worked. I have spoken with 2 different people at Turbo Tax who say that cant even tell me any information about my return….but didnt even ask me my information, not even my last name….my thought is you arent even trying to help your customers with information. RIDICULOUS!

  29. I am a returning Turbo Tax customer and have always been satisfied with your product until now. I understand that the President not signing the tax laws until December caused the delay in filing but I do not understand Turbo Tax telling us that they will file our returns on Feb 14 when we are using their service and then when the time comes they tell us that it will be on a first come, first serve basis. Please inform your customers when their return will be filed or risk losing business next year.

  30. Other tax companies are filing all of theirs by today, guess we all need to go somewhere else next year and forever after!!!!!

  31. When are you going to send in my return? H & R Block is sending them in as soon as you finish them. You told us you would send them in on the 14th, but you haven’t. You shouldn’t mislead the public like this. I smell a class action lawsuit brewing for false advertisement.

  32. You received my returns on 1/28/2011, and I still do not have confirmation that my federal has been accepted. Can you give me a better idea of schedule/how these are being filed so that I know exactly what is happening??

  33. ok so Irs WMR website said my refund was DD on Friday Feb. 11 2011 but my turbtax card doesnt have it posted and its already the 15th so how long would it take to show up. Or do i need to start looking for my money other ways!!!!!!

  34. Hi, when does TT actually transmit the Fed return? I understand you have to stagger but do you send more than 1 batch per day or…?

  35. What time are the staggered returns being done? Also, which dates ranges are being submitted today, tomorrow, etc…

If I submitted my taxes on turbo tax today instead of a few weeks ago would I have had a better chance at getting my taxes submitted sooner?

    Thank you

  36. Hi, I’m having same problem as Carol K post on feb7 getting error message…Your transmission didn’t go through your internet connection may have been disconnected at the time you transmitted

My internet connection is up and ok and i’m ccurrent on all updates. efile pins are verified as correct any suggestions ?

  37. Sean,

I agree with you, if turbotax knew that they were going to be transmitting over the course of the week on a first come – first serve basis, they should have disclosed it and not just said it would be transmitted on Feb 14 and for that, they should be offering at least partial refunds to those who had to pay for the different packages.

We were told one thing and are getting another.

Also, we need to take a trip to Washington and kick our politicians in the butt for this fiasco! People were and still are hurting and they delayed getting this passed…

No need to reply Ashley, I am frustrated enough without hearing you try to point the finger. May well be a TaxAct year next year.

  38. Hi Ashley,

I forgot my epin that I pick from 2009, so I got new onces from the irs help me with my pin website, but when I file, turbotax knew what my epin was from 2009 and it automatically fill it in for me, and I overlook didn’t change it, so the pin that got submit was still the old pin from 2009, will I get reject from the irs? since there is a delay right now and my tax return have not been transmitted to the IRS.. is there anyway I can retract it and re-submit it with the right pin number? thanks in advance.

  39. First you say feb 14, now you say first come first serve, you knew this all along, be straight with your customers up front.

  40. Hi Sean,

Yes, TurboTax will be processing returns on a first-in, first-out basis. That means that returns will be sent to the IRS in date order of when they were filed with TurboTax.

    Ashley

  41. Is TurboTax taking into consideration of when we filed with turbo tax when determining when turbo tax will send the return to the IRS between the 14th and 18th?

  42. Hi Ben and GV,

Yes, TurboTax has already started sending held returns to the IRS. However, during the week of Feb. 14-18, the IRS is limiting the number of tax returns it accepts daily to manage their systems capacity and ensure successful filings of all returns.

The IRS has required transmitters of e-filed returns to stagger submission of returns from Feb. 14 to Feb. 18. This means that you might experience delays in your return processing and in the time it takes to receive your federal tax refund.

We know getting a fast refund is important and we are working closely with the IRS to process all tax returns as quickly as their systems will allow.

You will receive an email when your return has been accepted by the IRS, usually within 24-72 hours after it’s been received.

    Ashley

  43. I GUESS TURBO TAX IS GOING TO HOLD THEM UNTIL EVERYONE HAS SPENT THERE LAST DIME AND HAVE TO FORECLOSE ON THERE HOMES.

  44. Is turbo tax’s software and web based program updated to reflect the changes congress has made? I mean, my forms will be current and accurate, right? I went to the post office to get paper forms and they told me they were all taken off the shelf and waiting for the forms and instruction booklets to be republished once congress had finished voting. So is Turbo Tax updated their e-forms as well?

  45. Hi Wendy,

Due to an unusually high volume of tax returns, IRS is experiencing processing delays. As a result, the IRS may have made changes to expected refund dates. Please be assured that the IRS has successfully received your return. I understand this is very frustrating.

    Ashhley

  46. Ok – so I filed my taxes on the 25th of January – I am not a student and did not itemize anything – the only thing different for me this year was filing a 1099-R for my IRA….after submitting my e-file, I got a message from TT stating that the IRS had accepted my return and to expect my refund by Feb. 4th – then I check the IRS website and it says the 8th, then I get the processing delay message and now to expect it on the 22nd?? I don’t quite understand why I would be part of the processing delays – anyone have a clue?

  47. Hi Donna,

Our pricing structure is different for our online and our CD product.

If you used the TurboTax CD you can prepare unlimited federal returns and e-file up to 5 federal returns.

If you use the online version of TurboTax, you pay per federal return.

    Ashley

  48. How many times can we use with one copy of turbo tax for 2011? Last year we used it for our parents 5 times. However I tired to use this years return twice and it wouldn’t even allow the 2nd one.

  49. i filed my taxs n they were accepted my dd date was 01/28 and so far i havent recieved my refund yet so i looked on the irs website and it says code 1201 n delayed processing. does anyone have any info on how long this can take?

  50. I DID MY TAXES ON FEB 9 AND IT WAS ACCEPTED;WEN AM I EXPECTED TO GET MY REFUND;AND WEN DO I GET TEH STATE REFUND;OR DO I GET THEM BOTH AT ONE TIME?

  51. I efiled my federal return and for the first time I have to send in paperwork to the IRS. Can I mail them that paperwork now or do I have to wait until the IRS accepts my return from turbo tax?

  52. I filed this year with Turbotax….my AZ state refund has been deposited now from 2 days ago into my bank acct. Why did turbotax not notify me my deposit was in my acct. as they said they would?

    thanks/Ben

  53. i efile my taxes on jan 20,2011 was told by tt that i would receive my refund by the 4th of february check on irs website it stated expected by the 8th but when i check my turbo card no refund so check back on irs website it stated that they receive it and its been process but also has code 1301 what does that mean?? oh another thing i receive 2 turbo cards in the mail which one do i expect my refund on?pleaseeeee help i file efile every year but this is my first time using tt and this never happen to me what is going on??????

  54. HI PJ,

Yes, the TurboTax software is up to date. The IRS forms are finalized, there are just delays in the processing of certain returns. You can file today, no need to wait.

    Ashley

  55. Okay, one question: is the Turbotax software as of 2/8/11 updated with all the accurate tax rules for 2010, or should we wait a few more weeks to use it?

  56. IT’S MY MONEY AND I WANT IT NOW !!!!!!!!!!!!! WAY TO GO CONGRESS FOR SCREWING UP MY LIFE. SOME PEOPLE NEED THEIR MONEY. ARE YOU GOING TO GIVE ME THE INTREST EARNED ON MY REFUND FOR THE EXTRA MONTH YOU HAD IT ???? GOOD GRIEF , AND PEOPLE WONDER WHATS WRONG WITH THIS COUNTRY.

  57. No one else appears to be having the same problem with submitting their taxes from TurboTax as I do. Message “transmission didn’t go through, try again later.” My network is fine, all adjustments made etc. What can I do?? ck

  58. I used TurboTax Delux and did the long forms for State and Federal. When I submitted for efiling Feb 4th, I received the message “transmission didn’t go through try again later.” I have contacted tecnical support etc. tried and tried to submit and continue to receive the same message. What should I do? Should I mail the paper copies or what? Desperate ck

  59. ok i have a question!! I TRIED TO ACTIVATE MY TURBO TAX CARD AND IT KEEPS SAYING MY CARD CANT BE ACTIVATED. HOW WILL I RECIEVE MY REFUND?

  60. Hi, I filed Feb 2nd and did not itemize. I also did not claim any credits so my return should be processed immediately. Upon E-filing my current status says that my return will not be processed until Feb 14th. This goes against everything i have heard. What seems to be the issue here?

    Thanks for the help

    Matt

  61. Hi Ria,

Yes, if you transferred last year’s tax return information into this year’s return, TurboTax will automatically populate your return with last year’s AGI.

    Ashley

  62. Hi Garett,

The date that the IRS gives you is an estimate of when they think you will get your refund. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for them to change their estimate to a later date. This has nothing to do with the TurboTax software.

    Ashley

  63. we filed our taxes on the 28th saying that we will have it by feb 4th still haven’t recieve nothing check the status and it said it was beign delay till the feb 14th was wondering if anyone else haveing trouble we used turbo tax??

  64. I have been using TT for years. At the end when I had to enter my AGI or PIN it was already populated in there I think. I do not recall any of that information, but I do not want it rejected by IRS..I’m waiting long enough for my refund!!! If I’ve used TT last year I can be assured the AGI is correct right, bc I have NO clue and the only paperwork I can’t find is last years’!!!

  65. I just filed my return with itemized deduction and I understand IRS won’t start accepting the returns until the 14th of Feb. After I received a notice from Turbotax that they have received my return and it is in the Pending status. I received a 1098-t from my sons college. Is there a way I cancel the return that was already sent to turbotax and submit a the correct return?

  66. Hi Mimi,

Do you want to e-file the tax return you have already completed that was rejected for you PIN/AGI not matching or do you want to start your tax return over?

    Ashley

  67. How do I delete a rejected return. I have followed the instructions on the video, but the option to delete and start over does not appear. Also, why does the AGI/PIn screen flash for a second and then disappear? Lastly, I keep putting in 0 which is my prior year agi, because I did not file the year before, but it keeps getting rejected. Can you help at all?

  68. why does the agi screen disappear before you can change to use a self-pin? I keep getting rejected saying that my agi does not match from 2009. I DID NOT FILE IN 2009! I called IRS, they told me to use 0, which i did, but I am still being rejected….uughhh…. I keep trying to delete and start over, but that option does not appear like it says on the video…Im so frustrated with turbotax…please help

  69. I filed my taxes on Feb 21st, I didn’t see anything about a delay until it was already submitted. I did not wish to claim the tuition and fees deduction, but the education credit. Is there any way to fix this now or do I have to wait until the 14th even though it is not necessary for them to do this credit.

  70. theguywhopaidyoutodoyourjob,

If your return was accepted by the IRS, you are not affected by the IRS processing delays discussed in the article above. Unfortunately, the date the IRS gives you is an estimated date of when they think you will get your refund. Understand that you are very frustrated, but TurboTax does not ever handle your refund. Once you e-file or mail in your tax return, it is in the IRS’s hands.

  71. Hi Kellz,

We work closely with the IRS here at TurboTax, especially in regards to the processing delays. Unfortunately, the IRS is not accepting any returns impacted by processing delays yet. If the IRS does start accepting them before Feb 14, we will let you know and immediately submit your return.

    Ashley

  72. OK Turbo Tax!! Other Tax software programs are releasing the taxes affected from the Delay and already getting accepted by IRS…..Why hasn’t Turbo Tax updated yet!! IRS IS NOW ACCEPTING!!

  73. I filed my taxes and got rejected 3 times because of EIC I did not ask for, although I didn’t ask for it they gave me a EIC amount anyway. what’s up? Do I need to go elsewhere to do my taxes?

  74. why did your service not notify me of this? if you expect to ever successfully replace a human being for tax filing you should take these things into consideration, last you told me my refund was accepted, not on the day i was to receive my return, i search google and find that i wont untill the 25th at the earliest.. how about you come with me to my pharmacy and help me beg them for my medication for free? and after that we can go talk to my land lord? you SUCK!

  75. I e-filed my tax return with turbo tax on 1-24-11, and was accepted 1-25-11. I checked my status on irs.gov and I had an estimate date of 2-8-11, but now I checked it again, I says that my refunds processing is being delayed, I had to call 1 800 number and give them a code 1481. When I talked to IRS, they said it was due to me reporting Identity Theft in 2009, yet I e-filed in 2010 with no problems. Will this delay my dd scheduled for 1-8-11, like the IRS lady said, cuz sometimes they lie?

  76. Hi Chad,

It sounds like the IRS has just updated their estimate of when you can expect your refund. This happens often, it doesn’t mean you are part of the IRS processing delays.

    Ashley

  77. I paid extra money to have my return within 8 days, obviously that is not happening. Will I be refunded that money?

  78. So the delay of Feb 14, is only for processing, if I am using the Turbotax deluxe they will be no change in the numbers now and after the 14th?

    Thanks Jon

  79. Well, I filed my taxes EZ form standard. According to the tax software used, it was accepted that day. However when I call the refund hotline to check status, it states that now it won’t be processed until Feb. 22nd. I didn’t itemize, didn’t have any interest on student loans, nor a house, nor anything for that matter. So, why the hold up???

  80. So how long after Feb 14th will it take them to process any tax returns? Will we still have to wait the 2 weeks or so?

  81. I’ve filed my fed and state returns and owe a payment to the feds. I have my 1040-V but was wondering if I should wait to mail it until Feb 14,2011 or can i just go ahead and mail it now even though they will not begin processing my itemized return until then?

  82. I just finished my taxes with turbo tax and it said standard deduction. Does that mean that I should get my refund according to the regular irs chart date? I am a student and used form 1098-t in my taxes and received credit. Does that mean I will be part of the delay? Please help

    • why didnt turbotax tell me that when I filed and they still have failed to send me a email telling me that. It was the same last year. You have not informed me of anything, but that my refund should be on FEB 1st which is wrong!!!

      • Hi Natashia,
The IRS made changes to their system which we have no control over. We are keeping our customers updated as we get an update from the IRS. We just received an update from the IRS today(2/10/12) and are getting it out to you ASAP. I have updated this post with the information directly from the IRS, but I am giving it to you also:
Some taxpayers who filed electronically and received an acknowledgement
from the IRS are concerned when they visit “Where’s My Refund” and are
told that IRS has no information regarding their tax return. The IRS
informed us on February 10 that this is a temporary situation and should
be resolved in several days. At that time, you will be able to get an
expected refund date when you visit “Where’s My Refund.”

This is an IRS issue and impacts returns regardless of who sends them in
to the IRS. This is not a TurboTax issue.

If you have received an acknowledgement of your tax return from the IRS,
then the IRS assures us they have received your return and are processing it.

We want to quickly share any updates we receive through IRS because we know many of you are still waiting for your refund status and estimated direct deposit date. We really appreciate your patience in this really frustrating time and we’ll continue to provide updates as we receive them from IRS.

        Thank you,
        Lisa Greene-Lewis

  83. HI Candace,

If your return was accepted by the IRS, you are not impacted by the IRS delays. Your refund is probably just still being processed. The IRS frequently updates the estimate refund date for returns.

  84. I filed my taxes with turbo tax and because i did the itemized they said it wont get processed until feb.14 . Is it possiable to cancel and start over without the deductions so i can get my money faster or do i just have to wait until feb.14 .and will turobo tax file it for me or will i have to file all over again ?

  85. I do not understand why so many people are upset with the potential delay of a few weeks to get a tax refund. Do they not understand they let the government keep their money, interest free, throughout the year? If they need their money so urgently, why not increase their exemptions and get the money all year long before the government? Stop whining!

  86. I’ve used Turbo Tax for many years and each time I filed electronically. After filing last year, I received a bill in the mail from the State for the entire amount of taxes I paid in 2010. I was to receive over $4,000, but instead received this bill with threatening notes that I would be penalized if I didn’t pay it by April 15. Turbo Tax pretty much told me, “that’s your problem”. I had to take my paperwork to the State and tell them what happened. I won’t be filing electronically again, nor will I use Turbo Tax.

  87. I just want to respond to some of these post. Everyone is leaving comments bashing Turbo Taxes acting as if Turbo Taxes owe them something. It is the IRS that owes us contact them with your complaints they are the ones who makes the laws not Turbo Taxes. They are offering us a service to help get us the best possible refund we deserve and that is something I can’t say for other preparers who rips you off with their high fees. Since I’ve been with Turbo Taxes I haven’t had any problems or deceits, and I have recommended numerous of people to them, and they have congradulated me on referring them to Turbo Taxes. I will continue to recommend people to them. If you don’t like their service then take your business somewhere else and believe me you will be back. Turbo Taxes keep doing what you do you can’t please everyone but the ones you do appreciates you.

    • i agree. i love turbo tax, been using them for 2 years now and understand they do not process my refund however provide a service to file my taxes step by step with great customer service an i would rather keep the money in my pocket then give it to the high priced tax payers out there . thank you for all you do and the service you provide .

  88. if you file standard deduction, you will not be affected.only for those who itemize.with standard

deduction you will receive your refund early.if

there is a delay, then you must have put something

    that the IRS are checking.

  89. i filed on the 13th was accepted on the 17th my taxes is say still being processed refund due by feb.1 due they deposit on mon. but santa barbara are saying they have not recieved my bank deposit

  90. I’ve prepared my return and did itemize deductions and also have an education deduction/credit. My question is whether any of the changes will affect any of the tax or refund calculations. I’m in the middle of filling out financial aid forms for my son and it would be good to know if anything will change between now and mid-February.

  91. I read that because I was going itemized, my refund would be delayed….. so I went back and changed to standard. Is there a way to make sure the change took affect? Thank you.

  92. I filed my taxes on the 25th irs said they received it on the 28 & its being processed. my question is the automatic system says i should receive it by the 8th but irs calendar says the 4th which date should i expect it to come on? because IRS only issues money our on mondays & fridays the 8th is on a tuesday.

  93. I am very unhappy that Intuit was not forthright about holding my federal tax return. All messages said that the return would be transmitted but the IRS would not begin processing until mid-February. That is NOT what is happening.

  94. I filed my taxes the 13th of jan and got a email saying they were accepted by the irs the 16th, it also said my estimated refund date for direct deposit would be today the 28th. I didnt recieve mine so I got on to check the status of my refund and it said my new estimated refund date was feb 2 due to processing delays? Im not real sure what that means, since I recieved the e-mail stating that the irs had accepted. Any help..thanks!

  95. My federal return was accepted by the IRS on 1/23/10. My state has already been processed, and my boyfriend, who did his the same day, already got his refund direct deposit. My refund status just says processing and that I should receive my refund by Feb 8th. Is this because I claimed mortgage interest? Why else would it still be processing?

  96. I thought I checked for standard deductions although TurboTax said I should take itemized, it didn’t make a difference either way, but apparently I didn’t check it and stuck with the itemized and now my refund will be delayed, is there any other way to check to see if the irs will see that my income was so low that it is not affected by standard or itemized?

  97. It is not clear about the Feb. 14, 2011 delay. Does this mean that taxes that are not itemized will be processed as usual or that all taxes will be delayed even short form.

  98. Is it possible for me to exclude my itemized deductions and file now so that I get my refund faster and file an amended return at a later date with the deductions?

  99. Hi Jordan,

Yes, from what you said it sounds like your federal refund will be delayed until after Feb 14. If you filed with TurboTax, you still might get your state refund now though.

    Ashley

  100. Hi beautyjai,

If you took the Higher Education Tuition and Fees Deduction, your federal refund will be delayed until after Feb 14. You could still get your state refund now though.

    Ashley

  101. I was wondering since I started my turbo tax return i listed medical expenses and milage to get to medical appointments, now because I listed that stuff will it cause a delay in me getting my taxes back? does it mean my taxes wont b efiled until february 14th??

  102. Hi Angelle,

If you filed a Schedule A (itemized on your taxes) or claimed the Higher Education Tuition and Fees deduction or the Educator Expense Deduction you won’t get an acceptance from the IRS until after Feb 14.

    Hope this helps.

    Ashley

  103. I file with turbo tax on Jan 15th . I have not receive a confirmation back from irs if has been accept by irs. It has been two weeks.

Does irs give you response 24-48 response?

  104. im lost because i filed my taxes on the 25th and it gave a standard email, but what i am confused on is , if you put down how much you spend for college expenses does that mean you are affected by the tax law that was passed, please someone help

  105. I itemized my deductions, i work from home and i have a mortgage. I filed my taxes on 01/22/11 and I still havent received any kind of notification that the IRS has accepted them, its never taken this long. Because I itemized my deductions does this mean i will not get my tax refund until after feb 14?

  106. i filed my taxes on turbo tax jan 19th and am expecting my taxes on the 28th of jan. i didnt run accross anything mentioning a delay or unable to process. do i need to ammend my taxes or what due to law changes?

  107. I did my return and was told that the return was accepted on the 17th and that the return would be deposited into my account on the 28th. I just want to make sure that this is still going to be. I did not have any itemized or educator deductions. Will I be affected by the delayed returns?

    • Hi Bernard. I used turbotax and was told my anticipated date was January 25th for my refund. I am trying to find out what day the IRD disburses the refunds each week – someone told me it was on Wednesdays, but I don’t know and can’t find it anywhere on the web anymore, as I did before.
      Donna

      • Hi Donna,
They generally disperse funds on Wednesdays, but keep in mind the IRS states that these dates are projected dates based on normal processing and assumes your tax return does not require further review. In addition, the IRS states that your financial institution can take an additional five days to deposit your tax refund. Please see this link to the IRS e-file refund cycle chart http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p2043.pdfSimilar

        Thank you!

  108. Hi Laurie,

TurboTax is up to date with all tax forms and tax law changes. If you are seeing a screen in TurboTax that says the form you are filing is not final, it means that the IRS has no finalized that form. As soon as they do, it will be updated in TurboTax.

    Hope this helps.

    Ashley

  109. I read the post from Turbo Tax Ashley saying the forms are up to date. It seems she is not up to date, as I have just completed my return on Turbo Tax and it is very clearly saying that some forms are not available until Jan 27th and I can not process my return at this time. This has been the case for a week. I completed the email request which states that they will contact me when it is available. Just putting me further back at the end of the long IRS refund line, it seems.

  110. I was wondering what Turbo tax would be right for me. My husband and I own our home and have a morgage. I have a son, and pay for our daycare cost. We both have retirement plans.

  111. I need my return asap but it will be delayed due to itemized & educator deductions I need to claim. Is it possible to file without inputing these delayed deductions and then file an amendment after I receive my refund that includes these deductions? Thank you for your help.

  112. Hi Greg,

Yes, TurboTax is up to date with all the latest tax forms and tax law changes. Your can prepare and file your taxes now and be done.

The only thing that is being delayed is the IRS processing of some federal returns.

    Hope this helps.

    Ashley

  113. I heard the IRS delays were due to the last minute bills passed by Congress at the end of the year affecting the tables and such. Turbotax is saying I can go ahead and file now. But, has Turbotax already incorporated these tax changes and new tables into the software if I do my forms now? or will my numbers need to be recalculated at a later date? Thanks.

  114. I just paid almost 70 dollars to file one tax return on the turbotax site. I thought when I used the software on the site and paid for it I could do more than one return. Wrong. What a rip off. They should state that it is good for only one return. I did not see that anywhere. I thought I was getting the same software as I would buy in the store. Very deceiving.

  115. This is my first year attempting to start my own tax service. I would like to know if I could utilize Turbo Tax to serve my customers?

  116. I e-filed tubro 2009 , I have ajob that witholds and this year 2010 i have rental property income and expences to claim . Wich tubro-tax will be right for me . thanks

    geo.
