How and Where Are Americans Giving Charitable Donations?

Even in the midst (or tail end–depending on with whom you are talking) of the worst recession in a generation, it appears that Americans are tending to give more to charities. While 2010 figures have not yet been released for total charitable giving, we would venture to say that things are continuing along the same upward trend. Whether you are currently in a position to give or, even if you are not, it’s important to remember that you less than two weeks left to make those contributions to a qualified charity to make them tax deductible for this year. From now until Dec. 31, 2010, TurboTax will give $5 per person, up to $100K, to charity. Help us decide where it goes by visiting our Facebook Page or GivingGivesBack.com.

  1. I have just found out I can deduct gas mileage for going and returning from my boy scout meetings. What do I need to do to verify this for next year’s taxes?
