Hi John,
Try this: 1. Go to Deductions and Credits
           2. Click "Explore on my own"
           3. Scroll down to Other Deductions and Credits, Alimony Paid, Click Start
           4. On the Alimony and Spousal Support page delete her social security information and her name (make sure all fields are blank)
           5. Also make sure none of her info is still on your personal information page.

Hope this helps!

Thank you,
Lisa Lewis

I have been trying for several years now how to remove my ex'es SSN from line 31b on the 1040. I use TT every year and download the previous years data.

Line 31b is filled in each time and because I do not pay alimony anymore the program gets a little upset when I do not fill in an amount on line 31a.

Is there any way to correct this without deleting all of my stored information and starting from scratch?

BTW, I do not want to search the site, I want to browse it. Searching is not a reliable way to find information, although it does sometimes work. Browsing is more reliable, and also more interesting. Please provide a link to a page that we can use for browsing. That is, where the threads and topics are listed and we can use as a starting point to look around.

I've received an email that seems to be from your company offering a discount to turbotax insiders. The email provided a link http://turbotax.intuit.com/affiliate/tticty07

is this legitimate. Due to the large number of fishing scams that provide this type of letter you should offer a site where the user can enter their private code to enter. A link on an email page is very risky these days.

We filed our taxes on 4/15/10. We hoped for a small refund, instead we unexpectedly owed $1133. We asked for a payment plan and printed out the 4 vouchers that TurboTax provided. More and more time went by and we never got the expected confirmation e-mail. My wife talked to an IRS agent and was told they had no record of us e-filing. So, on 6/1/10 I re-filed and e-payed the $1133. I knew there would be a late fee and was prepared to pay it. Within a day or 2, I got confirmation from IRS (which I accidentally deleted). I also got my congratulations from TurboTax. I've been waiting ever since for the IRS to withdraw the money. The other day we got a letter from IRS telling us how much we now owed. Today we checked with the IRS again and once again found out that the IRS never got the payment, even though they did get the return. We went ahead and gave them a check for the new amount of $1261.13.

This is the first year TurboTax caused us a problem and cost us money. First off, I was angry that they charged us more for using TurboTax than they claimed they charged on the internet. Then, TurboTax would not refer to last years return (which was in the computer we used) and so we had to lookup all the 1040 information ourselves and enter it from scratch. So basically we paid more and got less and then some glitch in the TurboTax program did not send our money causing us to have to pay interest on top of the late fee. What recourse do I have?
